Thinking about the one that kicked things off…

The Vine Fraternity. This was novel number three - and the third in the Bruce Highland series. The year was 2016, and a lot of different things were going on in my life. For whatever reason, people really liked this one, and it started to sell like wildfire. Due to a medical issue, I was in the meat locker for two days, and I would check my sales stats every few minutes and watch the numbers rise. Ah, the good old days. Except for the medical issue.

It was fun to write. They were all fun to write. They are all fun to write. You will notice that Vietnam appears frequently in my works. No, I’m not even close to being old enough to have been there the first time, but I feel connected to it. I spend a fair amount of time in Southeast Asia on assignment. When I was in army basic training, everything, and I mean everything training wise, was based on the Vietnam war. Radio procedures. Map reading. Most of the senior NCO’s and officers were in ‘Nam, and had their share of stories to tell.

Oh, the cover. A grass hut in the jungle swamp. That was actually a seafood restaurant in Can Tho, Vietnam. A very good one at that. We ate shrimp as big as a small dog, and bottomless mugs of Tiger beer. A nice reward after a successful mission.
