Bicycling & burgers

Two of my most favorite activities - which, I often combine in to one! That’s right. One of Bruce Highland’s favorite pastimes is to cycle the Napa hillside, chasing down hotties in the course of a covert two-wheeled tailing expedition. Okay I guess that sounds kind of creepy but I do like cycling as well, generally putting in anywhere between 20 and 80 miles. All right it’s been quite a while since I’ve gone over 40. And of course to keep it all rewards based, I try to throw a burger stop in near the end. I picked up a new bike at the beginning of the year - my ten year old Tarmac was beginning to show its technological age, and I’ve been drooling over new carbon with disc brakes, bolt-through axles and Shimano Ultegra DI2 groupsets much in the same way I drool over the tight legging clad treadmill queens at the gym. Okay I guess that sounds creepy too. Don’t blame me, I get that from Bruce.

Today’s menu choice? Lettuce wrapped double cheeseburger with grilled onion, tomato, pickle and avocado, along with a side Ceasar salad, with no croutons (you might be starting to pick up a theme here.)

On another note, my editor and I are busy putting the final touches on the newest Bruce Highland novel. It’s one that I’ve started, got seventy percent in to it, and didn’t like where it was going, and instead of doing a sloppy adaptation, I did a compete, clean-sheet rewrite. Twice. That’s right, the third time is a charm. I’m super happy with it and so is my editor.
